ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita men's soccer home opener turned into a showcase for the future at Kluck Field on Saturday as two freshmen stepped up to lift the Tigers to a 2-0 shutout over Hendrix for their first win of the season.
Redshirt freshman midfielder Jack Langford broke the ice and delivered a moment to remember just before the 15-minute mark. Langford weaved through defenders on an iso before unleashing a 30-yard strike that curled into the left corner of the net for his first career goal to give the Tigers an early advantage.
The Tigers capitalized early in the second half when freshman forward Nathan Buwemi broke free from his defender and buried a 15-yarder from the right side to score his first career goal in the 50th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Dillon Staal kept a clean sheet, denying both of the shots on goal from the Warriors to secure the shutout. Ouachita dictated the tempo maintaining possession for 52% of the match. The Tigers attempted 17 shots, including six shots on goal.
The Tigers (1-1-1) will look to build on the momentum when they travel to Texas next week, facing UT Dallas on Thursday before a match with Texas A&M International on Saturday.
