RICHARDSON, Texas — The Ouachita men's soccer team stood toe-to-toe for nearly an hour at UT Dallas, but the Tigers ultimately dropped the road match by a final score of 3-1.
After a scoreless first half, a second-half flurry of goals from UT Dallas proved too much to overcome. The Comets struck first as senior midfielder Hamza Syed created enough space to bury a 20-yard strike just outside the box for his first goal of the season in the 56th minute.
Less than one minute after UT Dallas took a 2-0 lead, the Tigers retaliated once a shot attempt from freshman midfielder Andrew Castellanos was saved by the UT Dallas goalkeeper, but Castellanos secured the rebound and slipped a pass to junior forward Nael Shalabi for his first goal of the season to cut the deficit in half and help the Tigers avoid the shutout..
Ouachita attempted seven shots in the match, compared to 15 from UT Dallas. Senior goalkeeper Dillon Staal kept the Tigers within striking distance, securing eight saves on 11 shots on goal from the Comets.
The Tigers (1-2-1) look to respond as they return to action Saturday morning with a match against Texas A&M International at 11 a.m.
