TYLER, Texas – The Ouachita volleyball team split its final matches at the UT-Tyler Patriot Classic on Saturday starting a 3-1 win over the host Patriots and finishing with a 3-0 loss to seventh-ranked Central Oklahoma.
In the win over the Patriots, the hosts opened with a 25-19 win, but Tigers rallied to win the next three sets 25-20, 25-23, and 25-23 to earn the match win. Later in the day against the Bronchos, UCO won in three by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-18 to give the Tigers a 3-1 record heading into the second week of the season.
HIGHLIGHTS VS. UT TYLER: Kailey Thedford led the Tigers with 19 kills, while
Riley Braziel added 16 kills and three service aces.
Courtney Hanson recorded 46 assists, and
Kylie Kisgen tallied a team-high 28 digs.
Leah Gardner finished with five blocks to help Ouachita total nine blocks in the match.
HIGHLIGHTS VS. UCO: Leading the way for the Tigers was Gardner with 10 kills.
Emily Adams and Thedford each had six kills, and Hanson tallied 20 assists. Defensively, Kisgen registered 24 digs, followed by
Savannah Whitaker with 15.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, September 9 on the road against Texas A&M-Texarkana before co-hosting the Tiger-Reddie Invitational next weekend.
