WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's basketball team is headed home with two Great American Conference road victories in tow following a 67-60 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The Tigers (8-4, 5-3 GAC) used an 11-0 run in the fourth period to pull away from the Bulldogs (5-8, 3-5 GAC). SWOSU started the fourth period with a made basket to take its first lead since the first minute of the first period. The Bulldogs then went scoreless over the next four minutes to allow Ouachita to build its first double-digit lead of the game at the 6:48 mark on a three-pointer by Kayden Porter.
SWOSU's full court press late in the game allowed the Bulldogs to cut the Tiger lead down to five with 30 seconds remaining, but Ouachita held it there, while Samantha Watson nailed four free throws in the final 11 seconds to ice the win.
The game started slow with a low-scoring first quarter. Both teams picked up the offensive pace in the second period with Ouachita holding the lead for nearly the entire half except for one tied score.
Ouachita led for the entire third period, while SWOSU rallied to make it a one-point game heading to the fourth.
Brooke Smith led a trio of Tiger scorers to reach double digits. Smith went 6-for-9 from the field for a season-high 13 points. Porter finished with a season-high 12 points for her second double-digit scoring performance of the year. Abbey Harrison turned in her second-straight double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Tigers are back at home next week to host Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday and Southern Nazarene on Saturday.
