TIGERS PICK UP FIRST ROAD WIN OVER OZARKS

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The Ouachita wrestling team picked up its first road win of the 2025-26 season with a 32-17 victory at the University of the Ozarks.

After the Eagles took an early lead, Ouachita (4-5) responded by forcing the action to earn four consecutive bonus-point victories. 149-pounder Caleb Andrews dove for a single leg, then dumped Ozarks' Andrew Dado to secure the first takedown. Andrews was a hammer on top, wrapping his leg inside and cranking Dado to his back to score a pair of near falls. With a 12-0 lead after the first period, Andrews attacked an ankle pick to force a stoppage and secure the 15-0 tech fall in 3:28 to give the Tigers their first lead.

Freshman 157-pounder Johnny White followed up using a nearside cradle to score the first takedown, flipping Landon Rofkahr to his back. White held onto the nearside cradle by the edge of the mat and rolled to earn a first period pin in 2:33.

Junior 165-pounder Sam Schmidt dove for a single leg to secure a first period takedown, then hooked the arm of Ozarks' James Tuepker to run a tilt and score consecutive near falls. Schmidt pounced on Tuepker's ankles to secure his second takedown and forced four stall calls to earn a 15-0 tech fall in just under five minutes.

Freshman 174-pounder Ethan Day used his opponents leverage against him with a slick shuck to score a first period takedown. Day used another throw by to roll Jemarion Moore to his back and ran a nearside cradle to earn a first period pin in 2:16.

The Eagles momentarily stopped the bleeding with a win at 184, which set up a rematch at 197 between Ozarks' Jadaan Anderson and Ouachita's Cayden Byrd. Both grapplers opened the bout with heavy hand fighting and scrambling for the first takedown, but it was Anderson who emerged in control to seize an early advantage.

Both wrestlers matched reversals, then Byrd forced a pair of stall calls to tie it up at 5 apiece heading into the third period. Byrd escaped to take the lead, then collided headfirst with his grounded opponent and raced around to secure the decisive takedown. Anderson was forced to injury default following the sequence, which secured the road win for the Tigers.

Despite the dual being out of reach, there was still a heavyweight showdown between NCAA Division III seventh-ranked Ka'Ron Lewis against Ouachita's No. 14 BK Seago. Lewis dove early to grab a single leg, but Seago scrambled through and regrabbed a single leg of his own to secure the first period takedown. In the second period, Seago escaped to make it 5-0, then countered a desperate shot attempt and used a throw by to score a second takedown, leading to an 9-0 decision over Lewis to improve to a team-best 11-3 this season.

Ouachita hosts Newman for a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association dual meet on Tuesday night, Jan. 20 at Lake Hamilton High School Arena in Hot Springs.
