ROBINSON SCORES 48, TIGERS TORCH REDDIES

ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita women's basketball senior Heidi Robinson blacked out Thursday night, scoring a career-high 48 points to lead the Tigers to an 89-56 blowout win over cross-street rival Henderson State inside Bill Vining Arena.

Robinson's point total ties a Great American Conference single-game scoring record on 15-for-28 shooting from the floor and an absurd 9-for-16 shooting from beyond the arc. Ouachita's senior sniper initially broke the ice, hitting a spot-up three to give Ouachita an early lead it never relinquished. The 48 points is also the most for the Tigers in the NCAA era.

Robinson pulled up to connect on an elbow jumper, then bullied her way to score through contact, then later dropped her defender to splash a filthy step-back corner three that forced the Reddies to burn a timeout. Robinson outscored the Reddies by herself with an remarkable 21 points in the opening frame.

After Henderson (11-4, 7-4 GAC) tried to slow the tempo early in the second and cut the deficit to four, Ouachita senior forward Abbey Harrison crashed the offensive glass to respond with a putback finish at the rim. The Tigers (10-5, 7-4 GAC) fed Harrison while posted up inside for an easy look on the next possession. Harrison contributed 13 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Ouachita's sharpshooter buried her fourth 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Tigers a 12-point edge. Robinson followed up by using a pump fake to draw a defender and fired an assist to senior forward Audri Winfrey cutting through the lane to finish through contact. The Tigers took a 41-34 lead into the locker room as Robinson led the Tigers with 26 first-half points.

Robinson began the second half hitting her sixth three from the right wing to put Ouachita ahead by 10, then followed up drilling her seventh triple. After Robinson absorbed an elbow to the jaw that resulted in flagrant foul free throws, she calmly stepped to the line, sank both and continued to pulverize the Reddies. Robinson drove inside the paint and spun to hit a turnaround jumper. Just before the shot clock expired, Robinson buried a buzzer-beating three that pushed the Tigers' lead to 18 and broke the game wide open.

Ouachita outscored Henderson State 29-11 in the third quarter to take a commanding 70-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter. By the final frame, the rivalry tension was replaced by a standing ovation each time Robinson touched the ball. The Marmaduke, Ark. native capped her phenomenal performance by scoring on three consecutive possessions. Robinson crashed the glass to score a putback layup, buried her ninth 3-pointer on a second-chance opportunity, then delivered an and-one finish through contact to finalize her scoring spree.

Ouachita travels to Searcy for a rescheduled game against Harding on Monday, Jan. 26, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
