BETHANY, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's basketball team fell to Southern Nazarene on the road Thursday night in Great American Conference action by a final score of 69-53.
SNU (9-14, 9-10 GAC) used a strong first period to take control, building a 22-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes. The Crimson Storm extended the margin in the second period, holding Ouachita (12-11, 9-10 GAC) to limited scoring runs and taking a double-digit advantage into halftime.
Ouachita settled in during the third period and briefly cut into the deficit with improved defensive pressure, but Southern Nazarene answered with a run midway through the period to maintain separation. The Tigers continued to compete in the fourth, trimming the margin to 10 early in the period before the Storm closed the game on a late push to secure the 16-point win.
Madeleine Tipton led Ouachita with 24 points, accounting for nearly half of the Tigers' offense.
Brooke Smith recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Audri Winfrey added six points.
Ouachita shot 35.4 percent from the field in the game. SNU finished at 49 percent.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday in Shawnee against Oklahoma Baptist.
