MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Ouachita softball team split Thursday's road doubleheader at Arkansas-Monticello, dropping the opener 4-1 before bouncing back with a 6-5 win in the nightcap.
The Tigers scattered just four hits in the series opener, while the Blossoms capitalized on defensive miscues to build an early edge and struck first as junior Jolie Bazan hit an RBI triple. Ouachita cut the deficit in half to start the fourth as freshman Morgan Uher launched a leadoff solo home run over the left field wall for her fourth of the season. The Tigers threatened late and loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but ultimately left the bases stranded to end the game.Â
The Tigers pounced to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first as junior Emily Reed belted a 3-run blast over the wall in left-center for her 11th of the season. Arkansas-Monticello answered immediately with a five-spot in the bottom of the first to seize the lead.Â
After senior Jessalyn Ahrens and junior Jordyn Merrett reached safely to open the third, freshman Reagan McCoy ripped an RBI double down the left field line to tie the game. Later in the frame, freshman Alaina Lyle drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Tigers ahead. Uher, Reed and McCoy recorded two hits each to lead the Ouachita offense in the win.
Junior Karley Burrow earned the victory, allowing just three earned runs over 4.2 innings in the circle. Sophomore Catie Amador secured her second save of the season, recording the final seven outs while striking out four of the eight batters she faced. Amador turned in a solid performance across two outings in Thursday's doubleheader, allowing just three earned runs in 8.1 innings.Â
Ouachita concludes the road series with the rubber game against Arkansas-Monticello on Friday at noon.
