JOPLIN, Mo. - The Ouachita Baptist University women's soccer team battled Missouri Southern State to a 0-0 draw Friday night at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
Although neither team found the back of the net, both goalkeepers turned in strong performances to preserve the shutout for their respective teams.
Missouri Southern controlled much of the early attacking pressure, finishing the match with a 19-12 advantage in shots. However, Ouachita goalkeeper
Dominique Klujian repeatedly came up with key stops, recording four saves to earn the shutout.
The Lions generated 12 shots in the opening half, but Klujian turned away three shots on target to keep the match scoreless at halftime. Ouachita produced seven first-half shots, including a pair of attempts from
Brookelyn Babb and two from
Reese Brown.
The Tigers continued to create opportunities after halftime.
Isabella Savattere tested Smith twice in the second half, with the Lions keeper making saves on both attempts. Brown also registered multiple second-half shots as Ouachita looked to break through.
Klujian came up with another important save in the final minutes, stopping a shot from Missouri Southern in the 85th minute. The Lions also saw attempts from Talia Sanders and Presley Whitmire blocked as Ouachita's defense held firm down the stretch. The Tigers finished the night with four shots on goal.
Ouachita closes out a three-game road stretch against Rogers State on Sunday, Sept. 6. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.
