ARKADELPHIA, AR- The Ouachita Tigers (4-8-1, 1-3-1 GSC) hosted the Harding Bisons (6-10-1, 1-3-1 GSC) on Friday, marking their most important game of the season. The Tigers were playing for a spot in the Gulf South Conference tournament and had to win to secure a position. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but were unable to hold on to it, as Harding netted a goal late in the second half, forcing overtime. Despite eight shots in the overtime periods, the Tigers were unable to score, finishing the game with a 1-1 tie and ending their season.
The Tigers goal was scored by junior
Rizvan Ceka, who was coming off of a three goal performance against Dallas Christian College. Ceka was assisted by junior
Clayton Case. Ceka attempted four shots during the game while Case also attempted three of his own. The Tigers recorded a total of 16 shots in the game, seven of which were shots on goal.
Harding's season saving goal was scored at the 82:55 mark of the game by Cole Walker on an assist by Rhon Royer. It came after a corner kick attempt from Harding.
During the game, many cautions were given as well as a red card. Harding's Connor Galloway received a yellow card at the 27:59 mark of the game, which was followed by a yellow for Ouachita head coach Alex Denning. Ouachita's
Andrew Davis and
Nathan Gay also received yellow cards in the second half. The red card was given to Denning, when he attempted to discuss a call with the head referee to no avail.
During the game, Harding was only allowed six shots, but it was the one goal that mattered. They did not get a single shot attempt during the overtime periods, while Ouachita took eight. In a very physical match, both teams were credited with 13 fouls.
Going into next season, the Tigers will not be graduating any seniors, providing an opportunity to carry momentum and team chemistry into the 2012 campaign.
