ARKADELPHIA, AR- The Tiger soccer team (2-4-1) hosted Central Baptist College (2-4-1) on Friday, resulting in their first tie of the season. The Tigers howed tremendous adversity, fighting back after being down 2-0 and forcing the game to double overtime before ending with a tie.
The beginning of the game was a bit rough for the Tigers, as they allowed CBC to score only four minutes into the game when Liam Levy Phillip squeezed a shot past goalie
David Henley off of an assist from Sabelo Hlongwane. Just a mere 12 minutes later, the Tigers would allow another CBC goal, when Hlongwane again found his man, helping Levy-Phillipp to his second goal of the game and giving Hlongwane his second assist of the day.
The Tigers would not score until late in the first half, when
JT Goodrum netted a goal off of assists by
Taylor Heinsohn and
Payam Pourjavad to cut the score to 2-1.
The second half would only see one one goal scored, as the Tigers would keep the Mustangs from scoring again in the contest. The goal was scored at the 77 minute mark of the game, when
Rizvan Ceka would score on assists by Pourjavad and
AJ Bauckman. The assist would mark Pourjavad's second of the game.
At the end of the second half, the 2-2 tie would stand, meaning that overtime would be warranted. As the overtimes progressed, shot after shot was taken, but nothing would fall for the Tigers or the Mustangs, ending the game in a 2-2 tie and handing both teams their first tie of the season.
During the game, the Tigers took six corner kicks to CBC's four. They were also called for 15 fouls while CBC was called for a total of 23.
Wayne Smith came in at goalie for the Tigers after the first half and collected five saves.
The Tigers return to action on October 7, when they travel to Pensacola, Florida to face off against the West Florida Argonauts in their first Gulf South Conference contest of the season. That game will begin at 5 p.m.
