Women's Soccer Downs Hendrix in Overtime

CONWAY, AR- The Lady Tigers (1-0) have been waiting anxiously for their season opener in Conway against Hendrix (0-3) and it paid off, as they walked away with the win. The Ouachita offense was on the attack on Wednesday night, putting up a whopping team record 32 shots throughout the night, including the game winner in overtime, scored by junior Lauren Hatch.

In the first half, Ouachita's defense was spectacular, holding Hendrix to one shot throughout the entire 45 minutes period while allowing themselves the opportunity to take 12. Hendrix goalkeeper Allison Mosley single handedly kept Hendrix from falling behind, collecting eight saves and fending off the Lady Tiger attack.

Much of the same occured in the second half, with the Lady Tigers continuing to create a barrage of shots for Mosley to block, but again, Mosley stepped up to the plate and collected another eight saves, holding the Lady Tigers scoreless on 14 shots in the second half. Hendrix was able to put up five shots in the second half, one of which was registered as a save for Ouachita goalie Whitley Hoppe. The Lady Tigers would be unable to net a shot before the end of the second, sending the game into overtime.

Ouachita continued their attack in the Overtime period, putting up a total of 6 shots in the first 6 minutes, before an injury slowed the game. The injury would be to the most overworked player in the contest, Hendrix goalkeeper Allison Mosley, and would provide the Lady Tigers an opportunity to place a shot past the goalie, which they were able to do at the 95:46 mark of the game, only seven seconds after the injury to Mosley. As previously mentioned, the goal was scored by Lauren Hatch with an assist by senior Beth Wendl.

During the game, Ouachita goalkeeper Whitley Hoppe collected 2 saves on the 6 shots that Hendrix was able to take. Of those 6, only 2 were considered on target. Wendl attempted 12 shots throughout the game, nine of which were shots on goal. The final shot tally for the game was 32 for Ouachita and six for Hendrix.

The Lady Tigers look to open up their conference schedule with a win on Friday night, when they face off against Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas at 5 p.m. That game marks the first Great American Conference contest ever for the Lady TIgers as they face off against Harding, who also left the Gulf South Conference after the 2010 season to play in the GAC.
