ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Tigers (7-8) faced off against their second consecutive nationally ranked opponent on Sunday, as they hosted No. 23 Midwestern State University (8-1-3). Ouachita never led in the game after falling behind early, but a late effort seemed promising. Sadly, the Mustangs netted a goal in the 88th minute and sealed off a 3-1 victory over the Tigers.
Midwestern got things started early, scoring at the 4:54 mark of the game, netting a ball in the right side of the net. The Tigers held admirably for the rest of the first half though, not allowing another goal until after haltime.
The Mustangs came out in the second half determined to extend their lead, and they did just that at the 51:42 mark of the game, when Len Smith stretched their lead to 2-0.
Ouachita would answer late though, cutting the Mustang lead to 2-1 and had a promising set of attacks. Their goal came from
Rizvan Ceka at the 78:35 mark of the game, when a cross from
Payam Pourjavad set up a goal in the left side of the net.
The Tigers late efforts were countered by a game-sealing goal in the 88th minute though, as the Mustangs closed out their 3-1 victory in Arkadelphia.
Ouachita will have a few days to recover before heading to Northeastern Oklahoma State on October 23. That game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
