ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Tigers hosted a number of teams at the Heflin Tennis Center this weekend for a tournament. In the Tigers first two matches, they recorded a 7-0 sweep of Delta State University and a 5-4 victory over #16 Southwest Baptist.
The Tigers started things off on Thursday with a match against the Statesmen of Delta State. Ouachita didn't lose a single match, sweeping Delta by a final score of 7-0.
Helge Knuth starting things off for the Tigers, collecting a 6-7, 6-2 victory over Florian Mandoloni.
Marko Boskovic followed up Knuth's win with another for the Tigers, recording a 6-2, 6-2 win over Delta's Guillaume Lacour.
Kenny Brasil collected a 6-4, 6-2 citory over Tobias Rausch, whith
Marvin Muller followed with a 6-2, 4-6, victory over Clement Depreeuw. In doubles play, Knuth and Muller defeated Mondoloni and Laucour by a score of 8-4, while the doubles team of Brasil and Boskovic downed Rauch and Depreeuw by a score of 9-8, (7-4).
Ernesto Laborda and
Ramon Abaitua defeated Mitchell Penchbeck and Cristian Serrano-Garcia by a score of 8-1, finishing the clean sweep of Delta State.
The Tigers found #16 Southwest Baptist to be a much tougher opponent than the Statesmen on Friday, only winning by a final score of 5-4. In singles play, Knuth fell to #24 Domingos Carrissimo by a score of 2-6, 6-4, followed by a Ouachita victory, when Boskovic defeated SBU's #34 ranked Jorge Margiotta by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Brasil suffered a loss to Southwest's Jorge Palacios, falling by a score of 6-4, 6-3, while Abaitua took down Kristof Kinai by a scoreo fo 7-5, 6-0, tying the team score at two points a piece. Daniel Cardona of SBU defeated Ouachita's
Marvin Muller in a 3-6, 6-3, (10-4) victory, with Abaitua facing off against Welch and winning by a score of 6-0, 6-1 to again tie things up. As the Tigers kicked off doubles play, Muller and Knuth were unable to defeat Margiotta and Carissimo, falling by a score of 8-5. The Tigers would finish things off right though, as Brasil and Boskovic defeated Palacios and Kinai by a score of 8-4 and Abaitua and
Ernesto Laborda recorded a victory over Cardona and Welch by a score of 8-4.
Ouachita plays again on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they face off against Oklahoma Christian.
