Men's Tennis Advances to NCAA Tournament as Central Region Host

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- As the conference tournament season for men's tennis wrapped up, the Ouachita Tigers sat in a pretty comfortable position as they looked ahead to a potential bid in the NCAA Tournament.

Heading into the Great American Conference tournament, they were ranked first regionally, and after winning their second consecutive GAC Championship at the tournament, it seemed a safe bet that the team would be playing in the first round of this year's NCAA Championships.

On Tuesday evening, the NCAA announced this year's regional hosts and the participants at each region. Head Coach Craig Ward and the Tigers added to their resume, as they will be hosting this year's NCAA Central Regional, the second year in a row that they have done so.

The Tigers hold the number one seed in the regional, followed by automatic qualifier Northwest Missouri State as the two seed, third seed Washburn University and fourth seed Southwest Baptist University.

The Tigers, who currently boast a 14-6 overall record, will face off with Southwest Baptist in the regional. The match will mark the second time the teams have met this year, with Ouachita winning the first by a score of 7-2. Southwest Baptist finished the year with a record of 10-10 and finished as the runner-up in the MIAA Conference Tournament

The match will take place on April 30 at 2 p.m. Action will occur at the Heflin Tennis Center on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University.

The winner of the match will advance to the Sweet 16, which will be held in Surprise, Arizona beginning on May 8.
