Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - For the second time this season, the Ouachita Tigers defeated Southern Arkansas University 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 15-12), ending a three-game conference losing streak. Ouachita improved to 11-6 overall and 4-5 in the GAC.
Abby Pickett led the Tigers with 13 kills and
Stephanie Pollnow had a season-high 12 kills.,
Despite trailing SAU in almost every statistical category, the Tigers played near error-free volleyball in the categories of sets and serves. The reduction in unforced errors helped the Tigers improve their record at home in 2014 to 4-2.
Defensively for Ouachita, libero
Ashley Wake was seemingly everywhere the Lady Muleriders attempted to attack. Wake finished the night with 35 digs, both a season and career high. She also had two assists on the night. Wake, along with back-row teammate
Chelsey Hess, were crucial in neutralizing the powerful serve of Southern Arkansas's Amanda Monge.
Freshmen
Kori Bullard and
Caitlin Cantrell were big contributors on the night. Bullard finished with seven kills and led the Tigers with six blocks. Cantrell made a big impact off the bench notching six kills and three blocks. The Tigers had nine team blocks in the match.,
Setter
Tara Wait returned to the starting lineup and recorded a double-double with 42 assists and 10 digs. It was Wait's eighth double-double this season.
Jayme Shell played another solid game defensively for Ouachita adding 20 digs to the Tigers total of 98 in the game.
Ouachita will host conference foe East Central (3-19, 0-9) this Friday (Oct. 17) in the Sturgis Physical Education Center. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
