ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - A combination of stellar defense and two first-half goals from freshman Tinashe Chigede led to a Ouachita Tigers 2-1 victory over the Union University Bulldogs Thursday night.

The match, which was played at AllCare Field on the campus of Arkadelphia High School, featured 16 Ouachita shots, seven of them on target. The Tigers held Union to 10 total shots and only two on goal. 

The first goal of the match came in the 15th minute, when Ouachita's Ryan Trayner found Chigede on a long pass across the field. Chigede beat Union's last defender while possessing the ball and then beat the Bulldogs' keeper for an open goal. 

Just over 10 minutes later, Chigede struck again, scoring on a header from six yards away from the goal. The ball came off a corner kick by Brandon Hom. 

After the final 19 minutes of the first half and the first 42 minutes of the second half proved scoreless, Union's Rodrigo Zonta brought the Bulldogs within one on a rocket from 30 yards out. Ouachita's defense stayed strong, however, as the Tigers held the Bulldogs without a goal in the final two minutes of the match. 

David Henley spent all 90 minutes of the match at keeper for the Tigers, and he improved his goalkeeping record to 6-5-1 with the win. 

Trayner and Hom each added their second assist for the season, and Chigede recorded his team-leading eighth goal. 

The Tigers (6-5-1) are 5-0-1 in their last six games, outscoring their opponents 16-7 in those matches. They are currently the fourth-ranked team in the Division II Central Region. Ouachita's next match will be on Saturday, Oct. 18, as the Tigers take on Christian Brothers University at 1 p.m.
