Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas - With the help of 27 points off turnovers, the Midwestern State University Mustangs defeated the Ouachita Lady Tigers 82-59 on Sunday. The Lady Tigers move to 3-3 on the season.
The Mustangs (6-1) led for over 39 minutes of the game and never allowed the Lady Tigers to hold a lead. Down by 12 with 5:55 remaining in the first half, the Lady Tigers went on a 9-0 run that brought the score to 27-24. The Mustangs stopped the run, however, and eventually built their lead back up to 10 with 13 seconds to play in the half.
After a four-point play by Alexis Sharp, MSU's Shatoia Gober sinked a last-second three-pointer to bring the halftime score to 35-44.
In the second half, the Mustangs continued to build their lead and eventually claimed their largest lead of 26 with 3:43 remaining in the contest.
For the game, the Lady Tigers committed 26 turnovers, and Midwestern State held a field goal percentage of 48 percent while holding Ouachita to only 36 percent.
Ashley Johnson led the Lady Tigers with a total of 13 points, including 3-3 from three-point range. Johnson also recorded six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Katie Kapler got her third double-double of the season in the game, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 boards.
The Lady Tigers (3-3) will travel to Russellville, Ark. on Thursday, Dec. 4, for their first Great American Conference matchup of the season. The game against Arkansas Tech is scheduled to 5:30 p.m.
