ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita volleyball team will look to break a three match losing streak tomorrow afternoon against Austin College and Howard Payne University.
Ouachita (11-6, 2-3 GAC) is coming off a pair of five set losses to in-state rivals Harding and Henderson State. In both matches the Tigers showed glimpses of how potent their offense is when everything is clicking. In the third set of the Henderson State match the Tigers recorded a .474 hitting percentage and registered 18 kills and no attack errors.
Three players had career nights for the Tigers against Henderson State. Junior
Adrianna Nolly (Denton, Texas) recorded a career high 24 kills against the Reddies, while senior setter
Stormi Leonard (Decatur, Texas) set a new single game GAC record with 69 assists. Sophomore libero
Julianna Mack (Little Rock, Ark.) also set a new single game GAC record for digs in a five-set match with 48.
Leonard is currently eyeing the Great American Conference career assists record. The senior setter currently has 4,082 career assists and is 61 away from setting a new record.
The Tigers will be facing off against a pair of Division III teams in a double-header on Tuesday afternoon. Ouachita will face the host institution Austin College (8-6) at 3:00 p.m. and then the Tigers will turn around and play Howard Payne (2-9) at 5 p.m.
Austin College is coming off a straight sets sweep against Johnson & Wales, while Howard Payne is currently riding a five match losing streak. The Yellow Jackets have dropped six consecutive sets in the process.
The last time Ouachita faced the Kangaroos of Austin College was back in 2011. The Tigers picked up a three sets to one victory over the 'Roos. As for Howard Payne, Ouachita has not played the Yellow Jackets in recent memory.
Later this week, Ouachita will be back at home against Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist.
