The Ouachita Baptist men's tennis team, playing with only four players due to COVID-19 protocols, fell to Southwest Baptist 4-3 Saturday at Ward Tennis Center. The Tigers picked up wins at Nos. 2, 3, and 4 singles, but forfeits on Courts 5 and 6 doomed the home squad.

The Bearcats took the doubles point with a 6-1 victory on Court 2 and a forfeit win on Court 3 to start the dual match with a 1-0 advantage.

In singles, Francisco Oliveira defeated Alvaro Nunez 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 on Court 2, Tobias Fuerschuss won 6-4, 6-3 over David Szeri on Court 3, and Carlos Solorzano beat Youssef Nabil on Court 4. The deciding match was played on Court 1, as Santiago Kearney took No. 19 Adham Gaber to three sets but ultimately fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. 

"After almost a year, it was certainly good to get back on the court this weekend," head coach Craig Ward said. "Especially against two quality opponents. It's going to be an unusual season to say the least. I have a feeling most teams will have to play shorthanded, but as long as you have a chance to win four points, it's a privilege to compete. It's also a great life lesson. Very rarely are things perfect; just focus on the task at hand and do your best. Were disappointed that we lost, but not disappointed in our effort. Any time you do your best you can be happy with yourself and look forward to the next challenge."

The Tigers are back on the court February 13 against texas A&M-Texarkana.
