Men's Swimming Comes Up Short in Season Debut

Final Results

The Ouachita Baptist men's swimming team lost its season-opening meet 144-111 at Montevallo on Thursday. Freshman Noah Smith made an impact in his collegiate debut, winning the 200 yard backstroke and 200 yard individual medley while also taking second in the 50 yard backstroke.

Sophomore Trent Reeder and junior Vaughn Stresow each contributed a pair of first-place finishes, as Stresow claimed the crown in the 200 yard freestyle and 50 yard freestyle, while Reeder won the 100 yard freestyle and tied fellow sophomore Keith Matthews for the gold in the 50 yard butterfly at 24.17 seconds. Junior Nolan Gerfers added a win of his own, taking first in the 50 yard breaststroke.

The final medal count saw the TigerSharks and Falcons finish with eight golds and six silvers apiece, with Montevallo taking the meet thanks to 10 bronze compared to just three for Ouachita.

The TigerSharks return to action January 16 at Delta State.
