LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University wrestling team had a successful start to the 2021-22 season on Saturday at the Little Rock Trojan Open.

The Tigers competed against wrestlers from Central Baptist, Ozarks, Carl Albert State College, Arkansas Baptist, Little Rock, Oklahoma Wesleyan, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

The format for the day was double-elimination brackets in each weight class.

Ouachita's top performances included Johnny Green winning first place in the 285 weight class bracket, Brooks Schrimsher winning the 194 bracket, and Jackson Carter finishing in second place in the 157 bracket.  

133 Weight Class Bracket

• Cole McCartney went 2-2 in the bracket.

141 Weight Class Bracket

• Zander Fields placed fifth in the bracket, going 3-2.
• Hudson Herring went 1-2, and Evan Kennedy went 2-2.

149 Weight Class Bracket

• Jaylon Otero placed fifth in the bracket after going 2-2.
• Marcel Molu went 1-2 in the bracket.

157 Weight Class Bracket

• Jackson Carter was the runner-up of the bracket, finishing 2-1. After a first-round bye, he earned a win by sudden victory in the second round, and then posted a win by fall in 3:44 in the semifinals. He lost by a 7-5 decision in the finals.
• Carter Bierbaum went 0-2 in the bracket.

165 Weight Class Bracket

• Chase Howerton went 0-2 in the bracket.

174 Weight Class Bracket

• Adrian Salazar-Rivera finished fourth in the bracket, going 3-2. He won his first match by fall in 4:40, took his second-round bout in a 5-3 sudden victory, and then lost in the semifinals by a 13-4 major decision. In the secondary bracket, he won by an 8-5 decision, and then lost by a 7-0 decision in the third-place match.
• Brady Marple finished fifth in the bracket, going 4-1.  
• Jake Sheehy went 0-2 in the bracket.

184 Weight Class Bracket

• William Martin went 4-2, Rey Reyes went 1-2, and Trace Morrow went 0-2.

194 Weight Class Bracket

• Brooks Schrimsher won first place in the bracket, going 4-0. He won by an 18-0 tech fall in the first round, won by a 5-4 decision in the second round, won by a 9-2 decision in the next round, and then won by a 4-2 decision in the final round.
• Ryan Cochran finished fifth in the bracket, going 0-4.

285 Weight Class Bracket

• Johnny Green swept through the bracket for a first-place finish. He won by a 1-0 decision in the first round, by fall in 1:23 in the second round, by fall in 1:19 in the semifinals, and won by medical forfeit in the finals.
• Donald Paul placed fifth, going 3-1. His only loss was to teammate Johnny Green in the semifinals of the main bracket.
• Chandler Cooley went 0-2.
