SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team opened its first road trip of the 2022 season on Sunday with a 15-13 loss to Oklahoma Baptist in game one of a three-game Great American Conference series.
The Tigers (6-5, 3-1 GAC) controlled the game early with a 4-0 lead through the first three innings, but found themselves down by one heading to the sixth inning after the Bison (5-6, 1-3 GAC) plated four runs in the fourth and the go-ahead run in the fifth.
Ouachita took advantage of a pair of Bison wild pitches in the sixth inning to score two and regain the lead. An inning later, the Tigers scored one run to go up 7-5 at the seventh-inning stretch.
The Bison rallied for crooked numbers in each of the next two innings, scoring five runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to take a 15-7 lead heading into the ninth. Ouachita then one-upped the Bison with the highest single-inning run total of the game plating six in the top of the ninth to finalize the scoring.
The Bison ended up with 15 runs on 15 hits with two errors. Ouachita had 13 runs on 11 hits with three errors.
Wyatt Core led the Tiger offense with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate. Jud Arrington and Isaac Nowell each had two hits. Nowell accounted for Ouachita's lone extra-base hit in the game with a bases-clearing double in Ouachita's six-run rally in the ninth.
Games two and three of the series are set for Monday starting at noon in Shawnee.
