ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team recorded its 12th double-digit hit performance of the season on Friday to earn a lop-sided 14-4 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State at home in the first game of a Great American Conference series.
The Tigers (15-8, 10-3 GAC) ended up with 14 hits in the win, tying the second-highest single game total of the season. Four Ouachita players recorded multi-hit performances, led by
Wyatt Core's 3-for-4, four RBI performance, highlighted by a pair of homeruns. He hit a solo homerun in the second inning, and struck again in the fifth for a three-run shot.
After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Tigers took the lead for the final time with a five-run rally in the third inning to go up 6-4, highlighted by two-run doubles by
Jud Arrington and Issac Nowell.
The Tigers put up another crooked number in the fifth with four runs across, all on homeruns.
Cade Burris hit a solo blast to start the scoring, and Core came through with his three-run shot later in the inning with two outs.
Noah Bachman picked up his second RBI of the game in the sixth in an RBI single to put the Tigers up 11-4. He has now driven in at least one run in four consecutive games.
Needing three runs in the seventh to earn the run-rule victory, Ouachita did just that, taking advantage of two walks, a hit batter, and two wild pitches to plate the first two, setting up
Jud Arrington's game-ending RBI single to drive in the 14th run. It was the third time this season for the Tigers to have at least 14 runs in a game. Arrington also had three hits in the win, going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
The Tigers and Bulldogs (10-13, 5-8 GAC) meet again on Saturday at Rab Rodgers Field for a double header starting at noon.
