SEARCY, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team scored seven runs in the final two innings to record a come-from-behind riad win over Harding on Friday night by a final score of 9-8.
The Tigers (9-6, 6-1 GAC) found themselves down early after Harding (10-4, 4-3 GAC) plated five in the bottom of the first inning.
Heading into the eighth, Harding led 7-2, but the Tigers rallied for four runs in the inning to make it a one-run game.
G. Allen, the reigning GAC Player of the Week, continued his hot streak with a three-run homerun to highlight Ouachita's scoring in the eighth.
Harding added one run in the bottom of the eight to take a two-run lead into the ninth.
Ouachita kept its late-inning rally going with three runs in the top of the ninth, highlighted by an RBI single from
Dustin Bermudez and an RBI double from
Cade Burris. The other run came across on a balk.
With Ouachita clinging to a one-run lead, the Bisons threatened in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on. The game can to an end when Ouachita catcher
Cade Burris caught a break on a ball that ricocheted off the backstop on a wild pitch to get a Harding runner out trying to take home.
Harding outhit Ouachita 14-13 in the game. The Tigers had four players with multi-hit performances.
Isaac Nowell went 2-for-6.
Wyatt Core went 2-for-4. Bermudez went 2-for-3.
Tallon Heine went 2-for-5.
On the mound, Garrett Hermes (1-1) earned the win relief despite giving up a run off two hits in the eighth inning.
Beau Burson earned his first save of the year after keeping the Bisons scoreless in the ninth.
Ouachita will go for its third straight series win in as many chances tomorrow in a double-header against Harding starting at noon.
