WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team opened its Great American Conference series on the road against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday with a pair of losses to the Bulldogs by finals scores of 4-2 and 7-4.
Michael Quinones led the Tigers (6-5, 2-3 GAC) in game one with a 4-for-4 outing at the plate including an RBI double to start Ouachita's two-run eighth inning.
Dustin Bermudez ended up driving in Quinones later in the inning on a sacrifice fly.
G. Allen went 3-for-5 in the loss.
Starting pitcher
Cooper Timmons (1-2) only gave up one run through the six innings on six hits, while striking out six SWOSU batters.
The Bulldogs (5-7, 2-3, GAC) went up 4-0 in game one with a three-run seventh inning, which ended up being enough to hold on for the series-opening win.
In game two, SWOSU jumped out a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and then posted another three-run inning in the third to take a commanding lead early.
With the Bulldogs up 7-0 heading into the fifth, the Tigers took their turn with a three-run inning all on one swing – a three-run homerun by Bermudez for his first round-tripper of the season.
Quinones was responsible for the final run of the day with an RBI groundout in the top of the sixth inning.
The Tigers were plagued by three defensive errors in the game. Of the seven runs scored by SWOSU, five went into the books as unearned.
Ouachita will look to avoid a sweep and salvage one win in the series with the final game on Sunday.
