ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team recorded its most lopsided Great American Conference victory of the season on Friday night at home, beating Oklahoma Baptist University by a final score of 73-51.
The Tigers (9-9, 6-8 GAC) never trailed in the game that never saw a tie score following Ouachita's first basket at the 8:52 mark of the first period.
Ouachita hovered around 50 percent shooting for the game, finishing the night just under at 29-for-59. The Tigers were also efficient from long range, knocking down 10-of-20.
Laney Mears was responsible for half of those, going 5-for-8 from deep and finishing with a game-high 23 points. The Tigers also took advantage of 27 turnovers committed by the Bison (13-7, 9-5 GAC) for 35 points.
The largest lead for the Tigers came late in third period following an 11-0 run to double up the Bison at 54-27.
In addition to Mears' performance,
Makayla Miller and
Madeleine Tipton also reached double-digits for the Tigers in scoring with 14 points each. As has come to be expected, Miller also filled up many other stat categories, with team highs in assists (five), steals (five), and rebounds (four).
The Tigers are back in action this Sunday at home against Southern Nazarene University. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but like Friday's game against OKBU, was pushed back a day due to inclement weather. Sunday's tipoff against the Crimson Storm is set for 1:30 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
