CONWAY, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened up their season with great performances at the Hendrix Invitational meet on Saturday.
There were no overall team scores, but Tigers consistently found themselves finishing near the top of the events.
Five women's program records were set this weekend, along with 21 personal bests for the women's team and 16 personal bests for the men's team.
The weekend's record breakers were:
Karis Martin in the women's long jump with a distance of 17 feet, seven inches (5.36 meters), beating the previous record by over a foot enroute to taking first place in the event. Martin also broke the program record in the women's 200M race, placing second in the event with a time of 26.33, just 0.09 seconds away from first.
Elise Knight broke the women's 3000M Steeplechase record with a time of 11:31.99 that beat the previous record by almost 10 seconds and earned Knight a first-place finish.
Mackenzie Davis broke the record in the women's 5000M with a time of 17:52.72, breaking the previous record by over 30 seconds and earning herself a first-place finish in the event.
The women's 4 X 400M squad of Perry, Wendt, McGregor and Breaux broke the program record and took second place in the event with a time of 4:11.36.
Other First-Place finishing Tigers were:
Macie Cash won the women's 1500 meters race with a time of 4:46.34.
Rebekah Wendt won the women's 400M hurdles with a time of 1:10.13.
The women's 4 X 100M relay squad of Martin, Perry, Bourgeois and Wendt took first place in the event with time of 51.63.
Other high-placing Tigers were:
- Savannah Carrigan took second in the women's long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 9.25 inches (5.11 meters). Carrigan also placed second in the women's 100M hurdles with a time of 17.88.
- The men's 4 X 100M relay squad of Lane, McGahee, Callahan and Neagle finished second in the event with a time of 44.20.
- Caden Callahan placed second in the men's 110M hurdles with a time of 15.93, just 0.36 second out of first place. Callahan also took second in the men's 400M hurdles with a time of 59.15, which was less than a second out of first.
- Alexis Perry took second in the women's 400M with a time of 1:01.34, a little more than a second out of the first-place spot.
- Izzi Breaux placed second in the women's 800M with a time of 2.22.78, which was just 0.44 seconds away from first place.
- Dylan Dew earned second in the men's 800M with a time of 1:57.80.
- Ashlynn Hecht finished second in the women's 400M hurdles with a time of 1:10.23, just 0.13 seconds out of first.
- Taylor Koeth finished second in the women's 5000M with a time of 18:06.78, which is good for second all-time in program history.
- The men's 4 X 400M relay squad of Callahan, McGahee, Dew and Neagle finished second in the event with a time of 3:32.18.
- Reyna Rogers placed third in the women's triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 10.5 inches (10.02 meters)
- Emily Payne earned third place in women's javelin with a distance thrown of 68 feet, one inch (20.76 meters).
- Josh Tibbs took third place in the men's 3000M steeplechase with a time of 9:47.45, less than three seconds out of second place.
- Xander Naegle placed third in the men's 800M with a time of 1:59.10.
- Marcus McGahee took third in the men's 200M with a time of 23.16, less than a second out of first place.
- Laynie White finished fourth in the women's 800M with a time of 2:26.06.
The Tigers will look to build on the momentum as they travel to Searcy, Arkansas to take place in the Harding Invitational Meet on Saturday, March 18.
