SEARCY, Arkansas — The Ouachita track and field teams turned in a strong showing at the Harding Invitational, highlighted by three individual event victories and a collection of runner-up finishes.
Leading the way for the men's team in the field events was sophomore Rocco Patrick, who delivered a record-breaking performance to win the hammer throw. Patrick shattered the Ouachita program record with a mark of 52.77 meters (173 feet, 1 inch). The Prescott native added another strong finish in the discus and placed second with a throw of 49.24 meters (161 feet, 6 inches). Junior MJ Ryman cleared 4.60 meters (15 feet, 1 inch) to take third in the pole vault. On the women's side, junior Brenlee Leonard broke her own program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 37.21 meters (122 feet, 1 inch) for a sixth-place finish.Â
On the track, junior Gavin Rainey earned a runner-up finish in the 400 meters with a time of 48.22. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of CJ Barr, Caleb Hogue, Jones White and Brodie Fischer finished in third with a time of 3:27.73.
The distance runners also shined in their events, including sophomore Jones White who placed third in the 1,500 meters run with a finish at 4:02.97. Two Tigers finished inside the top-three in the steeplechase as senior Christian Katz placed second with a time of 10:00.45 and junior Logan Gates followed in third at 10:31.47.
The women's team was carried by its sprinters, led by junior Joey Babel in the 400 meters with a winning time of 56.07. Senior Addrienna Gray claimed the 400-meter hurdles title with a time of 1:05.31, while also taking second in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.92. Freshman Jaydyn Johnston added another runner-up finish in the 100 meter dash at 12.42, while Anna Woolsey also placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.92. Freshman Taegan Herrien finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.39.
Freshman Zyron Brock also turned in a standout performance in the field events, breaking a program record in the triple jump with a leap of 11.62 meters (38 feet, 1.5 inches) to take second. Brock added another runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4.25 inches) to continue her phenomenal start to the outdoor season. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Babel, Brock, Gray and Woolsey also secured a runner-up finish with a time of 46.91.
The Tigers return to Arkadelphia to host the next event of their outdoor season as the Ouachita Invitational will take place next Saturday at the Hickingbotham Family Track & Field.Â
