ADA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team opened its Great American Conference road series against East Central University on Friday with a convincing win by a final score of 13-3.
Ouachita (13-8, 8-5 GAC) scored its 13 runs on 14 hits, marking the sixth time this season to score at least 10 runs and the 10th time to have double digits in the hits column.
Although the Tigers offense was on display in the win, starting pitcher
Cooper Timmons (3-2) was equally impressive in the win, allowing just three runs on four hits with eight strikeouts in the first 7.2 innings. After surrendering one run in the first inning, Timmons settled in to keep ECU scoreless in six straight innings before getting into trouble in the eighth.
Four Ouachita players turned in multi-hit games in the win, with
G. Allen and
CW Schrader leading the way with three hits each. Allen was 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a two-run single in the fifth inning and a two-run double in the ninth. Schrader finished 3-for-5 with a two-run single in Ouachita's three-run fourth inning.
Jud Arrington and
Kieran Theriot each added two hits in the win.
Games two and three of the series will be played on Saturday starting at noon.
