MAGNOLIA, Arkansas -- The 13th-ranked Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team opened Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association/Great American play on Tuesday with a 6-1 road win over 48th-ranked Southern Arkansas University.
Ouachita (8-6, 1-0 MIAA/GAC) earned the doubles point with wins in first and third position. All three doubles matchups ended up being close with two-set wins in first and third position and just a one-set lead for SAU (5-10, 0-1 MIAA/GAC) in second position when the point was decided.
The close scores carried over into singles with three matchups needing an extra set to determine a winner and two others needing a tiebreaker in one of the sets. The only point that was decided in straight sets without a tiebreaker was
Fernando Docters' third position win by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.Â
The Tigers head north for three road matches in as many days April 2-4 against No. 16 Northwest Missouri State, William Jewell College, and Arkansas-Fort Smith.Â
