MAGNOLIA, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team lost the deciding game of its weekend series on the road against ninth-ranked Southern Arkansas University on Sunday by a final score of 7-4.
It was the second 7-4 win for SAU (24-9, 16-5 GAC) of the weekend, with a 6-5 win for Ouachita (21-10, 14-7 GAC) sandwiched in between. The Tigers leave the weekend the same way they entered, just two games out of first place in the Great American Conference standings. Ouachita is now 5-2 in GAC series this season.
The Muleriders took advantage of 10 walks to get runners on base, and even with Ouachita's pitching working out of several jams to leave 12 runners stranded throughout the game, SAU still managed to push across runs in a timely fashion. Three of SAU's seven runs came in innings with at least two walks.
Ouachita's scoring came on an RBI single by
Michael Quinones in the fourth inning, a two-run homerun by
G. Allen in the sixth inning, and one run across in the eighth on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
Allen finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate, marking his first four-hit game of the season and second of his Ouachita career.
Wyatt Core went 2-for-4.
The Tigers step out of conference play on Tuesday for a doubleheader with two seven-inning games at home against Williams Baptist University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Rab Rodgers Field.
