Box Score MARYVILLE, Missouri – The ninth-ranked Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team fell short of a come-from-behind rally to drop its Sunday afternoon contest on the road against 12th-ranked Northwest Missouri State University.
Final score ended up 4-3 in favor of the Bearcats (10-5) despite a rally that saw the Tigers (8-7) go from down 2-0 to up 3-2 before ultimately losing the final two singles matches. It was the eighth ranked opponent for the Tigers this season, and the fourth opponent ranked in the top 15.
The Bearcats pulled off a pair of upsets in doubles play, taking down Ouachita's top two tandems, which are currently fifth and 30th, respectively, in the latest ITA national rankings. Third position doubles ended with both teams at five set wins.
In singles, the Tigers came out motivated with a pair of hard-fought wins in straight sets in first and second positions with 46th-ranked
Alex Blanchar taking down 16th-ranked Andrea Zamurri (6-4, 6-4) and 11th-ranked
Phil Exner beating 41st-ranked Michael Delebois (6-3, 7-8, 8-6).
Matias Parzajuk put the Tigers up 3-2 with a three-set win in fourth-position.
Northwest tied the match at 3-3 with a three-set win in third position, and then clinched the overall victory in another three-set battle, this time in fifth position.
Ouachita has a quick turnaround, heading over to Liberty, Missouri to take on William Jewell College on Monday, and then back to Arkansas to take on UA-Fort Smith on Tuesday.
