TIGERS FALL TO FIRST-PLACE BULLDOGS

WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The Ouachita volleyball team dropped its road match to the first-place Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs by the score of 3-0 Friday afternoon.
 
Another career milestone was hit in this match, as senior Avery Jauz recorded her 1,000th career dig.
 
Set Scores: 14-25, 22-25, 11-25
 
Ouachita (15-8, 6-5 GAC) started off close with Southwestern Oklahoma State (15-7, 10-1 GAC) in the opening set the Tigers' final Oklahoma road match of the season. The two teams stayed within a few points of each other for the first part of the set, but then SWOSU put together an 8-0 run to go up 19-10. From there, the Bulldogs comfortably finished off the set 25-14.
 
The Tigers got up early with a 3-0 run, but first-place SWOSU was quick to answer. A 6-0 Bulldog run put the Tigers down by five with the score 11-6. Southwestern pushed its lead out to 23-15 before Ouachita found a groove. The Tigers pieced together a 7-1 run that included four kills and two aces to bring the set within two points. But the Bulldogs held on and took set two 25-22.
 
SWOSU got off to a hot start in the third set and did not allow Ouachita to catch back up. The Bulldogs won set three 25-11 and handed the Tigers a 3-0 loss in the match.
 
Emily Adams and Leah Gardner led the offense with nine kills each.
 
Courtney Hanson led all setters in assists with 27 and led the team in aces with two.
 
Kylie Kisgen led the back row with 19 digs.
 
The Tigers will look to get back in the win column next week when they take on the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University on Thursday, October 31 at 6 p.m. in Magnolia, Arkansas.
