LIONS TAKE GAMES TWO AND THREE

JOPLIN, Missouri – The Ouachita baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's double header on the road against No. 23 Missouri Southern with a 6-0 loss in the first game and a 5-1 loss in the second.

The Lions (6-2) earn the series sweep after also beating Ouachita (3-3) on Friday with a 15-1 final in game one.

In Saturday's first game, five of the six Lion runs came in the bottom of the fifth, and all were unearned due to an fielding error earlier in the inning. MSSU added its final run in the sixth inning, also unearned due to a Ouachita error.

The Tigers had five hits in the loss scattered around five different players.

Tiger pitchers Chase Oberle, Hayden Childers, and Nate Gross combined to give up no earned runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and just one walk.

The runs came in bunches again in the series finale with four coming across the plate for the Lions in the bottom of the fifth inning. MSSU added its final run in the bottom of the eighth on a sac fly to finalize the scoring.

The lone Ouachita run of the day came on an RBI single from G. Allen, one of seven Tiger hits. Isaac Nowell was the only Tiger with more than one hit, going 2-for-4, including one double.

Ouachita will look to bounce back next weekend on the road against Northwestern Oklahoma State in the first Great American Conference series of the season. The schedule calls for a double-header on Friday, February 16 starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at noon.
