MONTICELLO, Arkansas – Ouachita and Arkansas-Monticello combined for 11 home runs on Wednesday in a doubleheader split in Monticello with the Tigers taking game one 14-8 and the Weevils taking game two 7-6.
The first game was highlighted by a 10-run inning for the Tigers in the fourth. Ouachita hit three homeruns in the inning, including a grand slam from
Dustin Bermudez for his second round-tripper of the game. He led off the contest with a solo homerun in the top of the first.
Wesley Scott and
Michael Quinones also homered in the rally.
Quinones joined Bermudez as Tigers to have two home runs in the game with a two-run shot in the seventh to finalize the scoring. Quinones wasn't done, though, as the senior started game two with a two-run homerun in the top of the first inning.
Of Quinones' team-leading nine home runs this year, eight have come in the last seven days.
Wesley Scott was a double away from hitting for the cycle in game one, finishing the contest 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Braden Tucker (1-1) earned his first collegiate win after giving up three unearned runs off four hits with seven strikeouts in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings of game one.
G. Allen was responsible for Ouachita's final round-tripper of the day with a two-run shot in the second inning of game two.
The UAM relievers held Ouachita scoreless on two hits in the final six innings.
Ouachita's
Tag Pacot had a dominant outing in relief, holding the Weevils scoreless on just one hit with six strikeouts in four innings of work.
The Tigers, now 20-12 overall this year, head into this weekend's home Great American Conference series against Southern Arkansas tied for first place in the league at 12-6. SAU is also among the four teams currently tied atop the league standings. This weekend's series at Rab Rodgers Field features a doubleheader on Friday, March 29 starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Saturday starting at noon.
