SEARCY, Arkansas – The Ouachita baseball team split a Great American Conference doubleheader with Harding on Saturday, winning the first game 3-2 and losing the second game 8-3.
The Bisons (22-14, 15-9 GAC) won the series two games to one including Friday night's 3-2 win to start the weekend.
Ouachita (21-17, 13-11 GAC) salvaged a win in the series in dramatic fashion. Down to the team's final strike in the ninth inning of Saturday's first game,
Joseph Bolin hit a two-run home run for what ended up being the game-winning blast. It was his fourth home run of the season.
Bolin's big hit followed seven straight innings of zero runs given up by the Harding pitching staff. Ouachita opened the game's scoring with an RBI single from
Cade Burris in the top of the first inning.
Chase Oberle turned in his sixth quality start of the season in a no-decision. He gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and just one walk in the first six innings.
Tag Pacot (2-2) earned the win in relief after tossing three no-hit innings to close the game.
In the series finale, the Tigers got up 2-0 in the top of the second inning on a sac fly from
Collin Liles and an RBI single from
Logan Bell.
Michael Quinones hit a solo home run in the third inning, his team-high 10th of the season, to put the Tigers up 3-1, but the Bisons held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way while plating four runs in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth en route to winning the rubber match.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday at home in a non-conference midweek game against cross-street rival Henderson State. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 3 p.m. at Rab Rodgers Field.
