RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita baseball team wrapped up the 2024 season on Monday with a 7-2 loss to Arkansas Tech.
The win sends Tech (35-16) to the Great American Conference Championship Tournament Final Four after also earning a win in game two of the series against Ouachita back on Friday night. The Tigers end the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 28-23 for a third consecutive winning season.
Monday's game was picked up in the bottom of the fourth inning, where it was delayed on Saturday due to weather. On Saturday, the Wonder Boys opened with two runs in the second before the Tigers tied it up on a two-run single by
Wesley Scott in the third. Tech regained the lead with one run in the bottom of the third.
Fast forward to Monday, the Wonder Boys rallied with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning to score three runs and then added the final run in the fifth. Tech pitchers held Ouachita scoreless on just two hits in the final five innings.
Cooper Timmons came on in relief in the final appearance of his record-breaking career to quiet the Tech bats. He allowed just one run on three hits with four strikeouts in the final 4.1 innings. Timmons ends his Ouachita career as the school's all-time leader in strikeouts with 349 and is in a three-way tie with Davis Ward and Steve Smith for the school record in career wins with 26.
