ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's cross country team picked up a win over GAC foes in the Bob Gravett Invitational to open the 2024 season Saturday morning.
 
The Tigers took first place with a score of 23 points. Fellow GAC member Arkansas Tech placed a close second with 33 points. Arkansas-Rich Mountain finished third with 90 points, and cross-street rival Henderson State placed fourth out of the four scoring teams with 111 points.
 
Izzi Breaux won the 5k race by a margin of 12 seconds with a time of 17:54.00. Breaux was the only runner to record a time under 18 minutes.
 
Five more Tigers placed in the top 10:

• Mackenzie Davis placed third with a time of 18:11.20.
• Allison Hylkema took fourth with a time of 18:11.90.
• Macie Cash finished sixth with a time of 18:20.40.
• Katelynn Nachtigal took ninth with a time of 18:42.90.
• Lucy Holden placed tenth with a time of 18:45.10.

 
10 of the first 20, and 27 of the first 50 runners across the finish line were Tigers in the 5k race.
 
It was a good win over two conference opponents to start the season for Ouachita.
 
The Tigers will be back in action in two weeks competing in the 2024 University of West Florida Invitational on Friday, September 20 in Pensacola, Florida.
