HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas – A nine-run eighth inning helped the Ouachita baseball team earn its first victory of the 2025 season in a 13-4 triumph over Washburn on Saturday to wrap up day two of the Dugan Collegiate Baseball Invitational.
The Tigers (1-1) scored 12 of their 13 runs in the last three innings combined to come from behind to beat the Ichabods (1-1). Ouachita opened the scoring with a leadoff solo homerun from Wesley Scott in the top of the first inning, but was then held scoreless until the seventh.
Meanwhile, Washburn rallied with two outs to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Ichabods scratched across single runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead.
Ouachita worked the counts late in the game and cashed in with five bases loaded walks, one coming in the seventh and the other four coming in the eighth-inning surge.
Other runs came across on a bases-loaded groundout by Isaac Nowell in the seventh, an RBI single by Aidan LeMasters in the eighth, a two-run single by Garrett Graham in the eighth, an RBI single by Octavio Mendivil in the eighth, an RBI groundout from Gavin Jacobs in the eighth, and an RBI single from Joseph Bolin in the ninth.
Ouachita finished with 12 hits in the win, three coming from Mendivil and two each for Scott, Graham, and Cade Bowman.
Austin Bagnall earned the win in his Ouachita debut, allowing no runs and no hits with four strikeouts and just two walks allowed in 2.1 innings of relief.
The Tigers head back to Majestic Park on Sunday to face off against 25th-ranked Missouri Southern to wrap up the opening weekend of the season. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.\
