ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's basketball team completed its Oklahoma road schedule on Saturday with a 66-60 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State to even the season series at one game each.
The Tigers led for the majority of Saturday's game, including a nine-point lead late in the second period. However, in a game that featured five lead changes and seven tied scores, NWOSU took a lead on its first possession of the fourth quarter and never relinquished it, going 5-for-5 at the free throw line in the final minute to hold off the Tigers.
Ouachita was able to tie the game at 60-60 with 59 ticks left on three-pointer, but the Rangers immediately answered and held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way.
The Tigers were able to hold the lead for much of the game thanks in part to 12 made three-pointers total, a category that the team had been struggling in lately. Ouachita finished the game at 36 percent shooting overall (18-for-50), 41 percent on three-pointers (12-for-29), and 67 percent on foul shots (12-for-18).
NWOSU had a commanding presence in the paint during the game, outrebounding the Tigers 32-22 and outscoring the Tigers down low 30-8.
Heidi Robinson had one of her best games of the season with a team-best 20 points with six made three-pointers and two made foul shots. Madeleine Tipton added 19 points and a team-high five assists.
The Tigers are back at home for three of the next four games, including Thursday night, February 13, hosting cross-street rival Henderson State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena. The Tigers beat the Reddies 80-58 in January across the street.
