ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team scored three runs in the seventh inning to rally back and beat seventh-ranked Augustana 3-2 on Sunday to wrap up the second week of the 2025 season.
The Vikings, who had outscored their opponents 44-12 in the first three games of the year, were held to just two runs in Sunday's game, both of which coming in the top of the first inning.
After the first inning, Ouachita starting pitcher Kyzer Smith settled in and only allowed two Viking baserunners through the next five innings, highlighted by a streak of 12 consecutive Augie batters retired. Smith finished with two runs allowed on four hits with eight strikeouts and just two walks in his 6.1 innings of work.
Tag Pacot came on in relief and held the Vikings scoreless on just two hits and one walk with four strikeouts in the final 2.2 innings. Pacot earned the win, moving him to 2-1 this season.
Offensively, the Tigers sent all nine lineup spots to the plate in the seventh inning and took advantage of four walks to take the lead. The three Tiger runs scored on an RBI groundout from Austin Gathright, an RBI single from Gavin Jacobs, and a bases loaded walk from Garrett Graham.
Ouachita wraps up the first two weekends of the season with a 3-4 record playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The Tigers move into Great American Conference play next weekend at home against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
