ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team scored three runs in the first inning, but was then held scoreless the rest of the way as Arkansas-Monticello earned a 7-3 non-conference win over the Tigers on Tuesday at Rab Rodgers Field.
UAM (25-17) opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning before Ouachita (18-22) rallied back with three in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run by
Wesley Scott and an RBI double by
Garrett Graham.
A combined total of seven Weevil pitchers then tossed up eight straight zeros on the scoreboard, while the UAM offense came through with two runs in the second, two in the fourth, and one in the sixth.
The Tigers combined for 11 hits in the loss, but left a total of 13 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth with the potential tying run at the plate.
Kyndall Cassidy led the Tigers with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Graham and
Jaxson Jester each had two hits in the game.
Tuesday's game opened an eight-game homestand for the Tigers to finish the regular season. Ouachita hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State this Thursday and Friday in a three-game Great American Conference series, including one game on Thursday at 3 p.m. and a double header on Friday starting at noon.
