MAGNOLIA, Arkansas – The Ouachita men's tennis team kept its unbeaten conference record intact with a 4-3 road victory over 39th-ranked Southern Arkansas on Tuesday.
The Tigers are now 11-8 overall and 3-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/Great American Conference South Division matches. SAU falls to 10-8 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA/GAC South.
Ouachita started with a sweep of doubles, including extra-point tiebreakers on courts two and three, to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
In singles, a pair of ranked athletes met on court one with No. 2
Phil Exner of Ouachita coming away with a two-set win over No. 34 Mathys Pinoit of SAU.
With Exner's win on court one coupled with No. 62
Ramon Strassmann earning a convincing victory on court two, the Tigers were up 3-0 with the final four courts to decide the winner.
With SAU winning on courts three, four, and six,
Yarin Aebi eventually came through with the clincher, needing a tiebreaker to win on court five.
The Tigers are back in action next Tuesday, April 15 in the final conference matchup of the season, going on the road to take on Harding. The Bisons are currently ranked No. 14 in the latest ITA national rankings.
