ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's soccer team only had three shots on goal on Sunday against Midwestern State, but all three found the back of the net to give the Tigers a 3-2 victory over the Mustangs at Kluck Field.
After a scoreless first half, Ouachita's offense found a rhythm in the first 15 minutes of the second half. The scoring started in the 54th minute when
Olivia Erskine scored the first of her two goals of the game after passes from
Reese Brown and
Kaylee McKinley set her up for an open look near the right post.
Erskine found the net again in the 59th minute on a set piece near the right sideline.
Isabella Savattere's free kick found Erskine near the middle of the box for a header goal into the left corner of the goal.
The Mustangs broke up the shutout bid with a goal in the 67th minute and then equalized in the 88th minute.
Ouachita didn't settle for the draw and picked up the offensive pressure, resulting in the game-winner from
McKenna Wright in the 89th minute from the assist of
Madi Vana.
Midwestern State dominated the stat sheet offensively with a total of 36 shots in the game, seven coming on goal. MSU also led in corner kicks 8-2 and finished with 59 percent of the possession time.
Taylor Hapgood earned the win in goal for the Tigers with five saves in a complete-game effort.
The Tigers are back in action on Thursday, September 11 at home against Rogers State. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Kluck Field.
