RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas— The Ouachita women's basketball team battled back in the second period to grab a lead at Arkansas Tech, but a strong second half from the Golden Suns gave the hosts a 99-71 victory over the Tigers on Saturday inside Tucker Coliseum.
After an opening period where Tech posted a 23-18 lead, Ouachita came alive in the second period. Behind sharp shooting from
Madeleine Tipton and
Abbey Harrison, the Tigers outscored the Golden Suns 24-22 in the frame to take their first lead of the afternoon and carry momentum into the locker room.
Tech answered emphatically after halftime. The Golden Suns exploded for 29 points in the third quarter, pulling away as their offense clicked with balance and efficiency. Logan Young led the charge with a 31-point performance, pacing a Tech attack that steadily built its margin throughout the second half.
Despite Ouachita's early fight, the third-period surge ultimately swung the contest in favor of Tech, which went on to close the game strong and improve its conference mark.
Madeleine Tipton led the Tigers and turned in her 13th career game with at least 20 points. She was 7-for-15 from the field, 3-for-7 on threes and 3-for-3 on free throws for exactly 20 points in the game. Tipton is now ninth all-time at Ouachita in scoring with 1,152 points.
Samantha Watson and
Abbey Harrison also reached double digits in scoring in Saturday's game with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The Tigers are on the road next week to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
