TIGERS KNOCK OFF 15TH-RANKED RANGERS ON THE ROAD

ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's basketball team opened its Oklahoma trip on Thursday night with a 68-64 victory over 15th-ranked Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The Tigers (7-4, 4-3 GAC) snapped a three-game losing skid with Thursday night's win. It also snapped NWOSU's nine-game winning streak and gave the Rangers (11-2, 6-1 GAC) their first conference loss of the year.

The turning point in Thursday's contest was a dominant second period for the Tigers. Ouachita outscored NWOSU 18-9 during those 10 minutes, sparked a spree of three-pointers. Madeleine Tipton had a four-point play during that stretch, while Heidi Robinson hit two treys and Kayden Porter accounted for the other. Robinson made a breakaway layup at the end of the second period to give the Tigers a 10-point lead at the break at 33-23.

The Tigers used another burst of three-pointers early in the third period to go up by 17 just three and half minutes into the second half.

NWOSU rallied to trim its deficit down to as little as three late in the third period and then again late in the fourth, but each time the Tigers had answers on offense and at the free-throw line to keep the Rangers at bay.

Tipton and Robinson were the game's leading scorers. Tipton led all scorers with 21 points, her second straight 20-point effort and 14th of her Ouachita career. She also had six rebounds in the win. Robinson was 7-for-10 from the field, including 5-for-8 on threes to account for 19 points.

Abbey Harrison added 13 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double this season and second of her career. Kayden Porter chipped in with six points. Audri Winfrey had five points and eight boards.

The Tigers stay in Oklahoma to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State this Saturday, January 10. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in Weatherford.
