ARKADELPHIA – A two-out rally for five runs in the sixth inning for No. 22 Delta State was the difference in the game as the Statesmen handed Ouachita its first home loss of the season on Tuesday by a final score of 8-4.
The Statesmen (10-2) took advantage of three walks and three Ouachita errors to score their five unearned runs in the sixth inning.
DSU struck first in Tuesday's game, taking advantage of two bases loaded walks in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Ouachita (9-3) evened the score in the third, starting with a leadoff home run
Reece McWilliams and equalizing later in the inning on an RBI triple from
David Bull that hit the top of the wall in straight-away center field. Bull finished the game 3-for-5.
Following DSU's big inning in the sixth, Ouachita relievers
Kyndall Cassidy and
Austin Ford held the Statesmen to just one more run the rest of the way.
Joseph Bolin blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to finalize the scoring. It was his team-leading fourth round-tripper of the season.
The Tigers return to Great American Conference action this weekend on the road against Harding with a single game on Friday night and a double header on Saturday afternoon.
