The Ouachita men's track and field team split its squad across two meets and delivered a handful of strong showings, highlighted by a pair of freshman victories at the Dan Veach Invitational, along with a standout hurdles performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Ouachita sent a crew of athletes out west to the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University in California. Sophomore Aden Hecht showcased his speed on the track, winning his individual heat in the 400 meter hurdles and ultimately placed fifth overall with a time of 51.58. He met an NCAA provisional mark that is currently tied for the tenth-fastest 400m finish in the nation among Division II athletes.
Two freshmen paced the Tigers on the track in Magnolia, both claiming wins in tightly contested races. Henry Woods emerged victorious in a photo finish to win the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:58.70. Caleb Greenwich edged out the competition with another dramatic return victory in the 1,500 meters run, crossing the finish line in 4:03.31 after battling neck-and-neck with the same Southern Arkansas competitor that Woods outlasted in his own race.
Freshman sprinter CJ Barr won his individual heat in the 400 meter dash and finished fourth overall with a personal-best time of 50.35. Freshman Isaac Pohlmeier also placed fourth in the 1,500 meters run with a time of 4:06.46. Junior MJ Ryman led the Tigers in the field events with a runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.51 meters (14 feet, 9.5 inches). Freshman Jackson Bates finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.61 meters (44 feet, 8 inches) on his first attempt.
Ouachita returns to Arkadelphia with 10 days to prepare for the Great American Conference Championships, set to take place April 29 through May 1 in Searcy.
