NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Ouachita track and field teams stood strong in a solid performance at the Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational, highlighted by nine top-five finishes against a competitive field.
On the men's team, junior Gavin Rainey led the way on the track with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 47.96. Freshman Mitchell Gage followed behind in fourth place and posted a personal-best time of 48.17. The duo of Rainey and Gage later teamed up with junior Dhakivion Seals and freshman Nathan Bradford in the 4x100-meter relay race, where the Tigers finished in second place with a time of 41.81. Bradford later added another top performance and placed fourth in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 6.89 meters.
Sophomore Aden Hecht delivered one of the top individual performances of the meet for the Tigers, finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles race with a personal-best time of 52.73, which reached an NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Sophomore Rocco Patrick led the Tigers in the field events with a pair of top-five finishes, taking third in the discus at 50.81 meters, then placed fifth in the hammer throw at 53.21 meters.
The women's team produced a series of solid outings from three sprinters, along with a standout freshman leaping into the sand. Juniors Joey Babel (55.65) and Anna Woolsey (55.84) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Junior Belle Lindsey turned in a record-setting performance, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.61. She later broke the school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a second-place finish at 1:02.57.
Freshman Zyron Brock continued her impressive debut season at Ouachita with two personal-best leaps. Brock finished fourth in both the long jump at 5.67 meters, and set a new school record in the triple jump at 11.73 meters. Brock later teamed up with Jayden Johnston, Joey Babel and Anna Woolsey as the women's 4x100 meter relay team established a new school record in 46.67.
In the distance events, sophomore Addi Durand continued her streak of improvement with a personal-best time of 4:38.07 to finish seventh in the 1,500 meters. Senior Allison Hylkema broke the 18-minute barrier in the 5,000 meters, placing 10th with a time of 17:56.36.Â
With two meets remaining in the regular season, Ouachita turns its attention to a road trip back to Ole Miss next weekend for the Joe Walker Invitational.
